Boracay: Philippines’ Finest Beach

To beach or not to beach

To beach. So I decided it’s time to head for Boracay Island, which is the best place to be when spending summer vacation in the Philippines.

This exotic beach has consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 Beaches in the World and is currently #2 on TripAdvisor’s 2011 Traveler’s Choice Beaches Awards.

How to go to Boracay

Located 200 miles south of Manila, we booked a flight via Cebu Pacific Airways to Caticlan. One hour and ten minutes was all it took which was a fraction of our waiting time at the NAIA Domestic Terminal. Our flight was delayed for three hours and we were there two hours before our original flight schedule… sigh*** well… shit happens.

Anyway, Caticlan is the town which the Boracay Island is a part of. It is located in the province of Aklan, on the northern tip of Panay Island, in the Visayas Region, of the Philippine Archipelago (confused? see map).

Philippine Archipelago

Booked at Boracay Regency Resort, our accomodation included boat and land transfers. We were picked up from the Caticlan airport by a van then driven to the hotel resort’s private waiting lounge in just 5 minutes.

Their private dock was situated behind the waiting lounge and from there, their boat service took us to Boracay island itself, within 15 minutes.

Finally at around 4:00 p.m. we arrived. Perfect. Great. Excellent.

From the Boracay dock we were again picked up by a van and dropped off at the hotel after another 10-minute ride.

Now to the beach…. or the swimming pool?

Swimming pool wins. After long hours of waiting and traveling on a hot summer’s day, there’s nothing refreshing than a dip in an olympic sized fresh water swimming pool that is just right outside your door.

This is just one of the 3 olympic sized swimming pools at Boracay Regency

The beach? Well, we’ve got lots of time. For starters, an evening stroll after dinner seemed perfect.
